Postal Consolidation # 1

Postal Consolidation

A mail consolidator receives mail from clients, mixes and sorts it according to the requirements of the receiving postal authority.  The mail is then bagged and labelled appropriately to meet the requirements of the destination.

By presenting the mail in a “sorted” condition, the consolidator effectively handles some of the initial work for the postal operator. In turn they offer a trade rate to consolidators which reflects this, and this is much cheaper than the general tariff.

The Benefits of Mail Consolidators:

  • Significant cost savings – save up to 10%! (sometimes it can even compete against Mailsort 3!).
  • Guaranteed 2 day delivery time (faster than Royal Mail Mailsort 2!).
    • 2-3 day service is available

Examples of consolidators:

City Link                                                                       CitiPost

UK Mail                                                                         TNT Post

DHL                                                                              Secure Mail

DX

Postal consolidators (unlike the Royal Mail) are not exempt from VAT. Charges for postage made by suppliers are subject to VAT and that tax can be reclaimed where the goods are used for business purposes.
